On February 19, 2026, 18-year-old Daniel Robles De Medina, a Hispanic male and an 11th-grade honor student at East St. John High School in 2024, was found dead in a Toyota Camry that had crashed into a house on Yorktowne Drive in the Cambridge subdivision of La Place, Louisiana. First responders arrived about 2:30 p.m. to find Daniel in the driver’s seat and 17-year-old Gerard Garrett in the front passenger seat, both with fatal gunshot wounds.

Investigators recovered two handguns, illegal narcotics, and cash inside the vehicle. Forensic analysis of cell phones showed the two had communicated about a narcotics transaction just before the shooting. Authorities say evidence indicates a struggle inside the moving car during which both teenagers were shot and killed; the vehicle then left the road and struck a nearby home, whose sole occupant was unharmed. Both victims were residents of St. John the Baptist Parish and had juvenile criminal records. No arrests will be made in the case.

Did anyone in the Cambridge subdivision see the vehicle before it left the road or notice persons approaching the car that afternoon?
