A visitor to Proud Lake Recreation Area in Commerce Township, Michigan, discovered the body of 19-year-old Andre Sontay Avant Jr. of Inkster near the park’s boat launch on Wixom Road on the morning of February 16, 2026. The discovery around 9 a.m. prompted a homicide investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office; an autopsy confirmed a fatal gunshot wound.
Investigators determined the park was not the scene of the shooting but the location where Andre’s body was left, and the sheriff said there appeared to be no connection between the victim, the suspects, and the community where the body was found. Within a week, a coordinated effort by several Oakland County units led to identification and arrest of three 19-year-old suspects — two from Romulus and one from Taylor — with two taken in Romulus and the third apprehended in Garden City after attempting to flee.
Is anyone in the area familiar with Andre’s movements in the days before February 16 or who might have seen suspicious activity near Proud Lake around that time?
