Carl Grillmair, 67, was fatally shot on the front porch of his home on 165th Street East in Llano on the morning of February 16, 2026. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at about 6:10 a.m.; paramedics pronounced Grillmair dead at the scene.

Investigators connected the homicide to a nearby carjacking. The person arrested in that carjacking, 29-year-old Freddy Snyder, was identified as the suspect in Grillmair’s death and has been charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with murder, carjacking, and burglary. Records in the case show Grillmair had previously called deputies on December 20, 2025, to remove Snyder from his property for trespassing; Snyder was later arrested the same day on weapons-related allegations that were dismissed and he was released on his own recognizance on December 23, 2025.

Authorities have not disclosed a motive or fully described any relationship between Grillmair and Snyder. Snyder is being held on $2 million bail with an arraignment scheduled for March 26 in Lancaster. Does anyone have information about Grillmair, his home in Llano, or the earlier December encounter with Snyder?
