On the morning of February 14, 2026, Matthew Wade, a 28-year-old U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Bragg, was found shot to death in a home on Daphne Lane in Vass, North Carolina. Wade and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Kateryna Tovmash, were discovered in bed by responding deputies from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office after a report of a shooting at about 7:45 a.m. Both victims had suffered gunshot wounds.
Investigators quickly identified 25-year-old Caleb Hayden Fosnaugh of Ohio, the ex-boyfriend of Tovmash, as the primary suspect. Authorities say Fosnaugh traveled from Ohio to North Carolina, allegedly broke into the residence and shot both Wade and Tovmash before fleeing. He was located later the same day in Linton Township, Ohio, during a traffic stop by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers and taken into custody without incident. Warrants were issued charging him with two counts of murder and one count of breaking and entering; he waived extradition and was returned to North Carolina and held in the Moore County Detention Center without bond.
This has been called a tragic and senseless act of domestic violence. Did anyone in the Vass or Fort Bragg communities see a white 2018 Ford Mustang or have relevant information about movements to or from Daphne Lane that morning?
