In early May 2011, Ali Hababi, a well-regarded deli owner on Buffalo’s East Side, was fatally shot at the Union Supermarket at Masten and Riley Avenues. Authorities believed the shooting occurred during an attempted robbery that escalated; investigators said at least one gunman was involved. Hababi was remembered by neighbors for his kindness, generosity, and contributions to the neighborhood, and his death left the community deeply affected.
Buffalo Homicide detectives investigated and appealed for public help in identifying those responsible. There have been no public announcements of arrests or identified suspects in the years since, and the case remains unresolved.
If anyone knew Ali, saw activity at Masten and Riley that evening, or has information that could help, please come forward.
