On November 2, 2010, Augustine Garcia, age 20, was killed in a drive-by shooting in the 67100 block of Assistencia in Cathedral City, California. Garcia and six others were with friends when a car approached, the driver asked Where are you from, and occupants opened fire. Yanize Mora, age 16, died at the scene; Garcia later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. Several other victims, including a three-month-old infant, were wounded but survived.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a light-colored Chrysler PT Cruiser or Chevrolet HHR and the shooter as a Hispanic male in his early 20s. The Cathedral City Police Department followed up on multiple leads and conducted many interviews, but the case remains unsolved. Families have held remembrance events and continued to appeal for information.
