Lyric Latrice Farley, 19, was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds on the afternoon of Saturday, February 7, 2026, inside her car in a parking lot behind a Dollar General off Central Church Road and Kings Highway in Douglasville, Georgia. First responders arrived after reports of gunfire and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Farley was a University of West Georgia student studying special education. A Carrollton High School graduate, she had participated in JROTC, color guard and wrestling and earned awards in band and on the honor roll. Her family described her as loving and bright.

Investigators from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office say they used physical evidence, surveillance video and witness statements to identify a suspect. On Sunday, February 8, deputies stopped a vehicle on Interstate 20 near Highway 5 and arrested 20-year-old David Marc Anthony Powell of Douglasville without incident. Authorities say Farley and Powell knew each other and had arranged to meet after a disagreement; Powell was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. Multiple firearms and vehicles were recovered under search warrants and the investigation remains active as the legal process moves forward.
