Shannon Sharpe, a 44-year-old White man from Lyons, Georgia, was the victim of a targeted attack around the Fourth of July in 2012. Deputies and firefighters who arrived at a burning mobile home in Toombs County found Sharpe outside the flames; he had been burned, beaten, and restrained, with half-burned rope still binding him. Those details led investigators to treat the incident as murder rather than accidental fire.
Sharpe was flown to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta and initially survived, but he died on a Monday morning after treatment. Early statements from the sheriff’s office said there were no suspects and that the violence appeared aimed solely at Sharpe. Two years later investigators described the case as a puzzle: they had multiple fragments of information but lacked the lead to identify who restrained, assaulted, and set him on fire.
An arson hotline was being maintained for anonymous tips, with rewards up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Does anyone have information about Shannon Sharpe or the circumstances in Lyons and Toombs County around that holiday week?
