Denise Oliverson was 24 when she left home for a bicycle ride on April 6, 1975, after an argument with her husband in Grand Junction, Colorado. She intended to ride her yellow ten-speed to her parents’ house but never arrived. Her bicycle and sandals were found under the Fifth Street Bridge near a railroad viaduct by the Colorado River, a route she likely would have taken. Her husband first assumed she was staying with family; her father reported her missing the next day and a search began. Early investigation produced few leads, and a boyfriend initially considered was later cleared.
Decades later, Ted Bundy confessed just before his 1989 execution, saying he had abducted Oliverson during the bike ride, killed her in his car, and dumped her body about five miles west of Grand Junction near the Utah line in the Colorado River, specifying she was not buried. The Grand Junction Police Department subsequently reclassified the case as a homicide, but Denise’s body has never been recovered. Does anyone have information about Denise’s last known movements or about that stretch of river that could help bring more answers?
