LaMark Lucky Simmons, 31, was killed in the early hours of Sunday, March 8, 2026. Officers responding to a shot spotter alert found Simmons with a gunshot wound at the intersection of Kramer Drive and Kmer Street around 1:30 a.m. He was taken to Carolina East Medical Center, where he died.

The New Bern Police Department described the shooting as an isolated event and launched an active investigation. In the days after the killing two people were arrested: 26-year-old Yosua Dyer was charged with accessory after the fact, and 26-year-old DeQuante Berry was charged with first-degree murder and held at the Craven County Jail without bond. Police have not released a motive for the shooting.
