On the evening of March 5, 2026, 32-year-old Stephan Burgin was found with a fatal gunshot wound at a residence on New Castle Pike in Carrollton, Kentucky. Deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about an unresponsive male around 8:30 p.m.; Burgin was pronounced dead at the scene and the Coroner’s Office became involved.
Investigators quickly focused on someone inside the family circle. On March 6, law enforcement arrested Stephan’s younger brother, 25-year-old Jessie James Burgin, and charged him with murder with a domestic violence enhancement, theft of a firearm, fleeing or evading police, and tampering with physical evidence. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Carrollton Police and a Kentucky State Police detective, is continuing the investigation.
Does anyone have information about the Burgin family or the events on New Castle Pike that evening?
