A confrontation on Main Street in Hungry Horse, Montana, on the evening of February 28, 2026, left 30-year-old David Bollman dead of an apparent gunshot wound. Multiple calls to dispatch came in about 7:13 p.m., and deputies found Bollman deceased at the scene. Bollman was a White resident of Flathead County.

Twenty-five-year-old Dylan Austin Olson of Hungry Horse was identified at the scene as the shooter and was taken into custody. Olson was booked into the Flathead County Detention Center on March 1 and charged with deliberate homicide. Court papers say Olson told investigators and witnesses he believed Bollman was coming to confront him and that he retrieved a shotgun from a vehicle; Olson has asserted he acted in self-defense. A witness who drove Bollman to the location reported Bollman’s demeanor as excited and happy and said no words were exchanged before he was shot while walking toward Olson.

Olson is held on $500,000 bond, and an arraignment is scheduled for May 7 in Flathead County District Court. The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the shooting.
