On Wednesday afternoon, February 25, 2026, 45-year-old Montaego Maxwell Sr. was shot on Rocky Creek Road in Macon, Georgia, around 5:15 p.m. First responders found him in the 1200 block after a call to the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and died of his injuries.

Authorities quickly identified a suspect and that same evening arrested 38-year-old Dequais Threatt. The McDonough Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office worked together to take Threatt into custody; he was charged with murder and aggravated assault. Law enforcement says the investigation is ongoing and is asking anyone with information to come forward.

Maxwell was born August 12, 1980. He attended Southwest High School in Macon, earned a GED in 2008, and worked in painting, construction, and landscaping. He is mourned by five children, two grandchildren, his mother, grandmothers, siblings, and other relatives and friends, and was preceded in death by his son Montaego Deshun Maxwell Jr.

Did anyone in the Macon area see or hear anything on Rocky Creek Road the evening of February 25 that could help the investigation?
