A Sunday afternoon dispute in Valley View, Texas, on April 12, 2026, ended with 43-year-old Brandon Kacey Acker receiving a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency crews including Cooke County EMS, the Valley View Volunteer Fire Department, the Valley View Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded after a 911 call around 3:31 p.m. Acker was airlifted by CareFlight to a Denton-area hospital in very critical condition and died a few days later.

Deputies at the scene located and arrested a suspect identified as 54-year-old Wilburn Ernest Ragon of Valley View. He was booked initially on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; after Acker’s death the charge was upgraded to murder and bond was set at $500,000. The investigation remains ongoing.
