Jacob Wesley Cook, 25, was killed inside his home on Olive Street in Vernon on April 8, 2026, after a disturbance that escalated into gunfire while a 911 caller remained on the line. Officers who responded found Cook inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds; family and an obituary describe his death as unexpected and place him at home when it happened.

Authorities publicly identified 22-year-old Martin Sanders as the alleged shooter; Sanders was arrested at the scene without resistance and charged with murder. Reporting at the time notes the investigation was active and does not describe additional suspects or any trial outcome.

Cook was born November 2, 2000, in Wichita Falls to Carie April Cook and Donald Lynn Cook Jr., and had recently lived in both Electra and Vernon. Does anyone with knowledge of Olive Street or the people involved have information that could help explain what led to this fatal confrontation?
