On the evening of March 28, 2026, 17-year-old Devon Nelson was shot at Reyes-Mashburn-Nelms Park in Midland, Texas. Officers responded about 7:48 p.m.; spent shell casings from both a pistol and a rifle were found in the parking lot and blood was present. Nelson was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Witnesses reported seeing three young men near a vehicle brandishing firearms, including a Draco-style weapon and a pistol with an extended magazine. An argument began when Nelson approached the group, which witnesses say turned physical before gunfire erupted. Surveillance footage, witness statements and other physical evidence helped identify three suspects.

Nineteen-year-old Juan Reyes Jr., 18-year-old Alejandro Lopez and a 15-year-old juvenile were arrested and charged with murder; the two adults are held at the Midland County Detention Center on $500,000 bond each. Witnesses described one suspect with a neck tattoo and another wearing distinctive skeleton-style clothing; social media posts were also mentioned as linking the suspects to the shooting.

If anyone was at Reyes-Mashburn-Nelms Park that evening or has information about what led up to the confrontation, please come forward.
