Shameka Miller, a 37-year-old traveling nurse from Arlington, Texas, was shot and killed early on the morning of Saturday, March 28, 2026, after a frightening encounter at the Baymont Inn on Interstate 10 in Beaumont. At about 6:00 a.m. she called police to report two men had solicited her for drugs in the motel parking lot and were following her as she drove away; the call was transferred to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and dispatchers heard multiple gunshots over the line.

Deputies were sent to Highway 73 east of Veolia around 6:30 a.m. after reports of a reckless driver. They found a black Dodge Charger crashed into the center median’s cables, the vehicle riddled with bullet holes and Miller inside unresponsive with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Surveillance from the Baymont Inn showed two men later identified as 25-year-old Javeon Javon Blount of Port Arthur and 28-year-old Demarcus Dewayne Elam of Humble entering a gray Toyota Camry that matched the description and plate Miller had given during her call.

Did anyone in Beaumont or along Highway 73 see the gray Camry or the black Dodge Charger that morning, or have other information about the motel parking lot encounter?
