On the afternoon of March 24, 2026, violence broke out in the Sunshine Mobile Village in Orangevale, California, leaving two people dead. Henry Giles, 63, known to friends and family as Russ, was among the victims. Deputies responding to multiple 911 calls found a woman later identified as Sue Harmon deceased at the scene; Giles was alive when found but died after being transported to a local hospital.

Family and witnesses say Giles was a father and grandfather who tried to protect someone that day. A neighbor described Giles pushing a woman to safety and telling her to run, and his niece, Leaunna Giles, said that knowledge offered some solace, calling his last act heroic. The investigation led to a 58-year-old resident of the park, John Clarke. Clarke was arrested and charged with two counts of homicide after law enforcement approached his trailer with assistance from Folsom police and an armored vehicle; he was arraigned and had a court date set for April 9, 2026. Authorities have not released a motive.

Giles was originally from Santa Barbara County and is remembered by family for fishing, dirt biking, barbecues and a sense of humor. Does anyone in the area have information about that afternoon or knew Henry Giles?
