Coby Ward, 28, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, was shot inside Boogie’s Texas Bar & Grill on South Wilcox Street in Rockdale, Texas late on April 17, 2026. Multiple 911 callers reported gunfire just before midnight; officers found Ward inside the bar with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in critical condition and later died of his injuries on April 20, 2026.
Investigators say witness statements and video evidence identified Raymond James McBride Jr. of Rockdale as the sole suspect. McBride was arrested April 18 on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge while Ward remained hospitalized; after Ward’s death police obtained a new warrant charging McBride with murder, a first-degree felony. McBride initially posted a $750,000 bond but prosecutors successfully moved to revoke bail under a Texas provision allowing detention without bond for certain violent offenses, and he was ordered held without bond while awaiting trial.
Does anyone who was at Boogie’s that night, or who has video from nearby, have information that could help investigators?
