Brandon Kacey Acker, 43, died after being shot in the head during an altercation on April 12, 2026, at a rural property in the 1000 block of County Road 200 in Valley View, Texas. Deputies responded to a disturbance call about 3:31 p.m.; emergency services including Cooke County deputies, the Valley View Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Cooke County EMS and the Valley View Volunteer Fire Department were all on scene. Acker was flown by CareFlight to a Denton-area hospital in very critical condition and died a few days later.

A 54-year-old Valley View man, Wilburn Ernest Ragon, was located at the scene and arrested without further incident. He was initially booked on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; after Acker’s death the charge was upgraded to murder and bond was set at $500,000.
