Latrell Williams, 30, of Alsip, Illinois, was shot dead in a drive-by attack on April 11, 2026, at about 4:47 p.m. at the intersection of 167th Street and Cicero Avenue in Oak Forest. Williams had been stopped in the median lane when another vehicle pulled alongside and an occupant opened fire, striking him multiple times on the left side. His girlfriend, in the passenger seat, was unharmed and witnessed the shooting.

An off-duty medical professional nearby rendered aid before Williams was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Surveillance and license plate reader cameras showed the suspects’ vehicle following Williams’ car shortly before the shooting, and the fleeing vehicle was seen heading east on 167th toward Interstate 57.

Authorities identified two Chicago men as suspects: 32-year-old Edward Bass and 30-year-old Khalil Powell. Bass was arrested the day of the shooting and Powell the next day; both were charged with first-degree murder. Prosecutors allege Bass was the shooter, firing a semiautomatic handgun into Williams’ vehicle, and Powell was the driver of the getaway car. The case was set for a pretrial release hearing at the Bridgeview Courthouse.

Did anyone in Oak Forest or along 167th Street see the vehicles or the shooting that afternoon?
