Michael Rodriguez, 30, was fatally shot on the top landing of a staircase at the Salado Orchard Apartments on Toomes Avenue in Corning, California, on the afternoon of April 9, 2026. Officers were called about 12:30 PM; Rodriguez suffered a gunshot wound to his upper torso and died from his injuries.

Investigators reported the shooting was tied to a narcotics connection and said they did not believe it was gang-related. In the days after the killing, police identified a suspect and publicly sought information on 36-year-old Rafael Ruvalcaba, also known as Sicko.

Ruvalcaba was arrested at an apartment on Newport Avenue in Orland by the Tehama County Sheriff’s SWAT Team and is being held without bail. Anyone with information about Michael Rodriguez or the events leading to his death is asked to come forward.
