Gilberto Sarmiento, a 25-year-old Hispanic man, was found shot to death alongside the Metro-North railroad tracks on January 13, 1995. He had been missing since July 17, 1994, when his family last saw him in Washingtonville, New York. Two days after his disappearance his 1986 Isuzu Trooper was recovered abandoned in the parking lot of Gully’s Restaurant on Front Street in Newburgh, miles from where his body was later found.

A recent Pace University finance graduate and dedicated bodybuilder, Sarmiento was described as having a mustache, a scar on his upper lip, and an earring in his left ear. When his remains were discovered he was wearing yellow shorts, a white T-shirt, blue-grey Nike sneakers, and a purple baseball cap bearing Albany State. No suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been announced; the case remains open and cold.

Anyone who knew Gilberto, saw him in July 1994, or has information about the abandoned Isuzu Trooper or activity near the Metro-North tracks that winter is asked to come forward.
