David Keels, 60, was shot and killed in Yonkers, New York, in the early morning hours of February 7, 1997. A married father of three and a school bus driver who owned Bo Dicks Lounge on Warburton Avenue, Keels closed the bar that night, drove his van to Ravine Avenue opposite number 77, and was ambushed as he walked north from his vehicle. The shooter fled in a waiting car that left south on Ravine Avenue.
Investigators quickly ruled out robbery: Keels was found with a significant amount of cash, so detectives concluded he was specifically targeted. Attention turned to the bar’s changing clientele; Keels had tried to keep drugs and weapons out of the establishment and had ejected several troublemakers. He had recently ended a partnership that brought weekend parties to the lounge, and the former partner was treated as a person of interest. Several suspects have been examined over the years, and many were eliminated, but no arrests have ever been announced.
Anyone who knew Keels, frequented Bo Dicks Lounge, or has information about activity on Ravine Avenue that night is asked to come forward with tips.
