Tracee Jane Carter, 40, was last seen on October 15, 2002, in Ventura, California. She told family she planned a trip to Alaska, rented a car that day, packed it with luggage and strapped a canoe to the roof, and before leaving gave most of her belongings to her son.
The rental car was later found abandoned in Eureka, California. Investigators recovered a suicide note inside the vehicle and the canoe was missing, but Carter’s body was never found and her fate remains unresolved. At the time she disappeared she had been in contact with an individual named Juan F. Vasquez, whom investigators have wanted to question; his role, if any, has not been established.
Despite the note, authorities have continued to investigate and no conclusive leads have emerged. If anyone knew Tracee, saw her car or canoe, or has information about Juan F. Vasquez’s contacts with her, please share what is known.
