Shortly before 5:30 a.m. on March 28, 2026, deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of shots fired in the 8500 block of 64th Avenue in the Wabasso area of Vero Beach. There they found 79-year-old T H Robertson Taylor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders performed life-saving measures and transported him to a nearby hospital, but he died of his injuries.

Sheriff Eric Flowers announced a homicide investigation and asked anyone who was in the Wabasso area that morning — including early delivery drivers — to report anything they saw or heard. The shooting occurred near Wabasso Foods, Head Start of Indian River, and Allen Chapel AME Church. Detectives said the investigation was active, but no suspects, persons of interest, or arrests were publicly identified.
