On May 3, 2026, four members of a Plant City family were found dead from gunshot wounds in what police describe as a quadruple homicide. Four-year-old Belle Dempsey, her 4-month-old sister, their mother Hailey Dempsey, 27, and grandmother Valerie Monica Deboe, 55, were discovered at two nearby locations: Hailey and the two children near Tever and Wheeler streets, and Valerie Deboe inside a home on North Burton Street. Another of Hailey’s children was found at the scene physically unharmed.

Police say officers had responded to a domestic disturbance at the Dempsey residence two days earlier after Hailey confronted her husband, Jay Dempsey, about infidelity and pornography; officers reported no visible injuries and the family described the incident as verbal. Investigators identified Jay Dempsey as a person of interest; he was detained for questioning and released, then reportedly left town and deleted social media accounts. His former employer, a moving company, confirmed he is no longer employed there and is cooperating with investigators.

No arrests or charges have been announced and authorities are asking the public for any information or surveillance footage showing the movements of a woman and three young children in the early morning hours of that Sunday. Does anyone have information that could help Belle’s family and investigators?
