On Saturday, June 6, 2026, Christopher Gomelski was shot and killed in a small trailer park on Orange Hill Road in Chipley, Florida. Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office found Gomelski on the ground; Washington County EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. A 911 caller had reported the shooting and that the alleged shooter was in a nearby residence, armed and trying to flee.

Multiple witnesses identified a neighbor, Carl Woodrow Rogers, as the shooter after he emerged from a nearby home with his hands raised. Rogers, a convicted felon, was taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered drug paraphernalia and a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine in the residence. During questioning Rogers admitted firing at Gomelski five to six times and later described a grievance involving a photograph of his one-year-old daughter; investigators said the photos showed a fully clothed child and found no inappropriate images.

Rogers reportedly threatened a neighbor after the shooting, and his mother told investigators he had been talking out of his head for days beforehand. Rogers was booked into the Washington County Jail on second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and two counts of aggravated assault. Does anyone in the Chipley area have information about the events that led up to this shooting?
