Frederick Middleton, 19, of the Humble area, was fatally shot in the early hours of June 3, 2026, after a late-night gathering at a home on Spring Brook Pass Drive in the Humble/Atascocita area of Harris County. Deputies were called between about 1:18 and 1:30 a.m.; Middleton suffered a gunshot wound to the head in an upstairs bedroom and was taken to a nearby emergency facility before being flown to Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center, where he later died.

Initial statements and a suspect’s claim suggested the shooting may have been accidental, described as a firearm that “went off.” Investigators later found blood spatter, multiple spent shell casings and a second firearm recovered at the scene, evidence that led prosecutors to upgrade charges. An 18-year-old, Jayden Crawford, who had been arrested initially on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, was later charged with murder. No other suspects have been publicly identified and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office continued its investigation.
