Joni Michelle Williams, 54, of Tennessee Colony, Texas, was found fatally shot on May 29, 2026, in the Tennessee Colony area of Anderson County. Deputies who responded to a reported shooting discovered Williams with an apparent gunshot wound; her death was treated as a homicide, an autopsy was ordered, and investigators began collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine what led to the shooting.
Investigators quickly focused on someone who had been close to her. Bruce Kenton Jeffers, 65, identified as Williams’ ex-boyfriend, was sought for questioning. Authorities said the warrant used to detain him related to violating bond conditions in an unrelated matter, but Texas investigators wanted him returned to Anderson County as part of the homicide inquiry.
Jeffers was located the next day, May 30, in Arizona. Arizona troopers, working with local officers, stopped a white GMC pickup on Interstate 10 near Benson, detained and arrested Jeffers without incident; officials said he was armed at the time. He was booked into Cochise County Jail on a full-extradition warrant with bond reported as $300,000 as authorities moved to extradite him to Texas. No trial outcome or conviction has been reported.
