Brock Cambell, a 37-year-old Black man from Maybeury in McDowell County, was fatally wounded in a late-night shooting tied to Jay Jay’s Bar/Lounge on Coal Heritage Road in Bluefield. The shooting happened in the parking lot at 1188 Coal Heritage Road sometime before 3:45 a.m. on September 14, 2024. Cambell was struck multiple times, taken to the WVU Emergency Room in Bluefield, then transferred to Roanoke Carilion Hospital; a Mercer County Sheriff’s Department announcement on September 23 said he had succumbed to his injuries after the transfer.
The sheriff’s department treated the case as an active investigation and asked anyone with information to contact Lt. S.A. Sommers, but no suspect, arrest, charge, or prosecution was publicly reported as of the last coverage.
Did anyone in the area that night see what led up to the shooting outside Jay Jay’s?
