In the early morning hours of July 8, 2026, 26-year-old James Corcoran was found dead from a single gunshot wound in his Greenville, Ohio, apartment on the 1100 block of East Russ Road. Corcoran, a new Greenville resident who worked at a local Dairy Queen, was a father of two young sons and engaged to be married.
Police arrested 33-year-old roommate Todd Black at the scene; he was taken into custody and held at the Darke County Jail on one count of murder with bond set at one million dollars. Corcoran’s fiancée, who was present in the apartment, told officers she had called 911 reporting Black threatened to shoot Corcoran and that Black had a loaded gun; she was in the hallway when she heard the fatal shot. Black placed his own call to dispatch and admitted the shooting, claiming it was self-defense and that Corcoran had attacked and tackled him.
Does anyone have information about Corcoran, his fiancée, or the household that could help clarify what happened?
