Ronald Hyson, 23, was fatally shot in Baconton, Georgia, on the evening of July 8, 2026. The Mitchell County 911 center received a hang-up call from the area of School Street at about 6:38 p.m., and deputies briefly checked the vicinity but found no one or obvious evidence. Roughly fifteen minutes later, at 6:53 p.m., two people with gunshot wounds arrived at a local hospital. Hyson was pronounced dead there; a 22-year-old man who was also shot was reported in stable condition.
Hyson’s body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, and the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to lead the investigation. Authorities have not released a motive, have not publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests have been announced. It is not clear whether the initial hang-up call was related to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the GBI regional office in Thomasville.
