On the evening of July 7, 2026, Shital Wrzesien, 57, was found shot to death inside her home on Laurel Creek Trail in Smyrna, Georgia. Her 23-year-old son, Jason Wrzesien, was also shot and discovered outside the house; he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities describe the shooting as a domestic violence incident. Kirk B. Wrzesien, 56, was taken into custody at the scene without incident and arrested. He faces one count of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and is being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Centre without bond. Police have not disclosed a specific motive.

Shital Wrzesien was a Georgia Tech alumna and a technology executive who served on the Advisory Board of the College of Computing and held leadership roles at companies including Google and Home Depot. Her family and neighbors described the killing as a heartbreaking tragedy.
