On the night of July 6, 2026, 20-year-old Keshawn Lewis-Hunt was shot and killed while trying to break up a fight at a family birthday party at his grandmother’s home in the 16000 block of Ashland Avenue in Harvey, Illinois. Police were called just after 1:15 a.m.; Lewis-Hunt was found with an apparent gunshot wound, given CPR at the scene, then taken to UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:54 a.m. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide from multiple gunshot wounds. Two other men, including Lewis-Hunt’s cousin, were also wounded and went to the same hospital for treatment.
Lewis-Hunt had played football at Morgan Park High School and Eastern Illinois University; friends, teammates, and his college released statements mourning his death. The Harvey Police Department, with help from the Illinois State Police, is investigating. No arrests have been announced and the suspect remains at large. If anyone was at the gathering or saw activity on Ashland Avenue that night, can you share what you know?
