A July 5, 2026 shopping trip at Southside Market in Natchez ended in gunfire that killed 28-year-old Kenerick Wimley and wounded two others. The shooting happened about 7 p.m. near the checkout area on Seargent S. Prentiss Drive after an argument between an employee and a group of men. Wimley was taken to a local hospital by a private vehicle and later died; two other victims, Keylan Wimley and Phillip Bradley, were airlifted to trauma centers.
Police identified 23-year-old employee Jamien Myles as the shooter. Investigators say Myles told them he was assaulted during the confrontation, then pulled a handgun and fired. Myles was found hiding in a store bathroom and arrested after officers recovered a handgun at the scene; he has been charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. Whether self-defense will apply is a matter for the courts.
Anyone who witnessed the shooting or knew Kenerick and his activities that evening is asked to come forward with information.
