Lamond Rashod Goodier, a 20-year-old Black man from Fort Wayne, Indiana, died after a disturbance at a Shell gas station at 1923 Broadway early on July 5, 2026. Officers were dispatched about 3:00 a.m. after reports of a confrontation involving an armed person. Before police arrived, Goodier and another injured person were taken to a local hospital by private transportation. Goodier suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was later pronounced dead; the other person’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The Allen County Coroner ruled Goodier’s death a homicide and listed it as the 19th homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County for 2026. Homicide detectives interviewed witnesses, reviewed surveillance, and collected evidence at the scene. Investigators identified Cameron Mikell as the alleged shooter; he was located July 6, taken into custody and preliminarily charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Mikell has reportedly said he fired while protecting his wife, a claim that remains for the courts to examine.
The investigation is active with the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office. If anyone witnessed the disturbance at Broadway and Taylor Street on July 5 or has information about the shooting, please come forward.
