In the early hours of July 5, 2026, gunfire outside the LA 42 Night Club on East Main Street in Waterbury, Connecticut, left two young people fatally wounded. Responding officers found 22-year-old Trey-Von Dunbar and 18-year-old Zaniya Dawkins with gunshot injuries; both were taken to local hospitals and Dunbar died shortly after arrival while Dawkins died the following day.
The shooting drew a large crowd and prompted the LA 42 Night Club to voluntarily surrender its liquor license and cease operations. Dawkins’s father said she was a loving, caring person who hoped to become a nurse and may have been struck by a stray bullet. Friends and family are left grieving and calling for an end to gun violence.
The Waterbury Police Department’s investigation is active and no suspects or arrests have been publicly identified. If anyone was at the club that night or has information about the shooting, please come forward to assist the investigation.
