On the early morning of July 4, 2026, gunfire broke out at a gathering on the 1500 block of Mabry Street in Selma, Alabama. Police arrived about 2:33 a.m. and found multiple people shot. Twenty-two-year-old Jerome Baker was one of two people killed; 39-year-old Demetrius Collins was the other fatality. A third victim, 36-year-old Tymantha Underwood, suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and received treatment.
Authorities identified a suspect and took 52-year-old Jerry Thomas of Selma into custody. He has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Jerome Baker and Demetrius Collins, and one count of first-degree assault for Underwood’s injuries. The investigation remains active and the case is pending in the courts.
Did anyone in the Selma area attend that gathering or have information about what happened that night?
