On the night of July 4, 2026, gunfire on Washington Street SW in Atlanta left at least three people shot. Two adult men, ages 26 and 27, were found conscious and taken to a hospital. Two days later, on July 6, the body of 16-year-old QorDarius McClure was located near the original scene; he had suffered a fatal gunshot wound and his death is being investigated as a homicide by the Atlanta Police Homicide Unit.
McClure was a high school student from Rome, Georgia, and the father of a three-month-old. Before his death the Rome Police Department had issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with an April 2026 drive-by shooting that injured a six-year-old; those warrants were recalled after his body was found. Family members reported they found him after he had been missing since the night of the shooting.
No suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been announced. Crime Stoppers Atlanta is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. If anyone knew QorDarius, saw activity on Washington Street SW that night, or has information about the shooting, please come forward.
