Nine-year-old Jade Riser was fatally wounded after gunfire entered a home in Milwaukee’s Harambee neighborhood on the night of July 2, 2026. Shots fired from outside the residence struck Jade while she was reportedly in bed in her bedroom on the 300 block of East Burleigh Street near North Richards Street. She was transported to a hospital in critical condition and died on July 7 after life support was removed when she had no brain function.

Police say the shooter remains unknown. Officers did pursue a vehicle that fled the area and arrested a 28-year-old man on charges including fleeing an officer and child neglect, but authorities have not tied him to the shooting and no one has been charged in Jade’s death. Her family described her as bright, creative and fearless, and relatives and neighbors have held memorials while urging anyone with information to come forward.

If anyone saw activity near East Burleigh and North Richards that night or has information about who fired into the residence, please share what is known.
