Truron Roach-Martin, a 24-year-old aspiring musician who performed as 3 Briscoe Bands, was shot and killed near the Coney Island boardwalk on the morning of July 1, 2026. The shooting happened around 9:23 a.m. near West 28th Street and Surf Avenue, a busy beachfront area where neighbors said the gunfire initially sounded like early Fourth of July fireworks.

First responders found Roach-Martin with gunshot wounds to his face and chest and he was taken to NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead. He was a father to a young daughter, and the community reacted with sorrow and fear at the daytime killing.

The NYPD says an unidentified shooter — described as a Black male wearing a blue mask — fled eastbound on West 28th Street toward Mermaid Avenue. No arrests have been announced and the investigation remains open. If anyone witnessed the shooting or has information about the suspect’s movements, please come forward.
