Charles Carr, 30, was killed in a seemingly random drive-by style shooting while asleep with his girlfriend and their one-year-old son in a second-floor room of an Extended Stay Hotel in Springdale, Ohio, during the early morning hours of June 30, 2026. Multiple rounds were fired from an exterior balcony into the room; Carr was struck in the mid-back and later died at Bethesda North Hospital. His girlfriend, Ariana Reynolds, and their son Xavier were asleep beside him and were not physically injured.

Surveillance footage showed a suspect fleeing and discarding a firearm and a sweatshirt near a garbage container; both items were recovered. Police found 20-year-old Nigel Norman hiding in a nearby motel laundry room and arrested him. Court documents say Norman admitted to firing into the room, telling investigators he was not aiming at Carr or his family but meant to scare his child’s mother, who he thought was elsewhere. He was charged with murder, felonious assault, and improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation and was booked into the Hamilton County Justice Center with bond set at $30 million.

This was an apparently unprovoked, fatal shooting that left a young child fatherless. Did anyone in the area see suspicious activity around the hotels that morning or have information about Norman’s presence there?
