Charlamon L. Stokes Jr., 23, was shot and killed inside a residence in the 100 block of South Pine Street in Richmond on the evening of June 29, 2026. Neighbors remembered Stokes as a beloved athlete and a fun-loving spirit; his death prompted a homicide investigation by the Richmond Police Department.

Investigators developed 26-year-old John Pettaway the Fourth, of Chesterfield County, as the suspect based on scene evidence and witness statements. A warrant was issued charging Pettaway with Discharging a Firearm in an Occupied Dwelling; authorities described him as about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 155 pounds and said he was considered armed and dangerous. The U.S. Marshals joined the search, and as of early July 2026 Pettaway remained at large. The motive has not been released.

If anyone knew Charlamon or has information about the shooting or Pettaway’s whereabouts, please share what you know with investigators.
