Christopher Lynn Brooks, 40, was shot in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 28, 2026, near College Street and Barker Street in Pembroke, North Carolina. He was found shortly after 4:30 a.m., taken to a local hospital, and later died of his injuries. An obituary was posted to honor his memory.

Police arrested 26-year-old David Estrada of Rowland a short time after the shooting. Estrada was charged with one count of first-degree murder in Brooks’ death and an additional count of attempted first-degree murder, indicating another person was reportedly targeted during the incident. Estrada appeared in court the Monday after the shooting and was denied bond.
