A late-night break turned fatal for 26-year-old Dylan Perkins on June 28, 2026. Perkins, a third-party vendor working at the Amazon fulfillment center at 7001 Vollmer Road in Matteson, Illinois, was on break near the employee bus stop with two colleagues when a verbal exchange with a food delivery driver escalated. Surveillance captured the delivery driver, identified as 33-year-old Devonta Hodge of Gary, Indiana, passing the group, being involved in a comment about his height, and then being pushed by Perkins after completing the drop-off.
Moments later Hodge allegedly produced a handgun and fired multiple times, striking Perkins several times in the torso. Perkins was taken to Olympia Fields Hospital and pronounced dead. Investigators from the Matteson Police Department and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force identified Hodge as the suspect; he went to the Matteson Police Department two days after the shooting, was taken into custody and was charged with murder by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
What did anyone working at the facility that night notice about the interaction near the bus stop?
