James Morrow was 20 when he was killed in a mass shooting in Marshall, Texas, in the early hours of June 27, 2026. The shooting took place about 1:50 a.m. in the Whataburger parking lot on Victory Drive. Officers arriving at the scene found multiple people with gunshot wounds; James and his 18-year-old brother, Jassiah Hill, were pronounced dead there and two others were injured.
Morrow was a student at Trinity Valley Community College and had played football there after transferring from Navarro College; teammates and coaches remembered his captivating grin. Hill had recently graduated from Longview High School and held a football scholarship to William Penn University.
Longview police arrested 19-year-old Davion Brown of Dallas the day after the shooting and charged him with capital murder of multiple persons. The next day 21-year-old Jamarrio Dominique Epps of Longview was taken into custody and charged with murder, and 18-year-old Cortavian Tatum of Longview later surrendered and was booked on a murder charge. Bonds for Brown and Epps were set at $2 million each. The investigation is active and several agencies are involved.
