In the early morning hours of June 27, 2026, gunfire erupted in the parking lot of a Whataburger on Victory Drive in Marshall, Texas. Eighteen-year-old Jassiah Hall and his 20-year-old brother James Morrow were killed; two other people were wounded. Jassiah had recently graduated from Longview High School and held a scholarship to play football at William Penn University in Iowa. James was a collegiate player at Trinity Valley Community College.
Marshall Police, joined by the Texas Rangers and the Longview Police Department, identified three suspects quickly. On June 28, 19-year-old Davion McDale Brown of Dallas was arrested by Longview police and charged with capital murder of multiple persons. Twenty-one-year-old Jamarrio Dominique Epps of Longview was taken into custody by a SWAT team and charged with murder, and 18-year-old Cortavian Tatum of Longview surrendered and was charged with murder. Brown and Epps were booked into the Harrison County Jail with bonds set at $2 million each. Investigators say the probe remains active and additional charges could follow.
Anyone who knew Jassiah or James, or who has information about the shooting that night, is asked to come forward.
