On the night of June 27, 2026, 48-year-old Jesse Reyes was shot and killed at a Houston home on Vassar Street that also served as the law office of 46-year-old Michael Stuart Driver. Officers were flagged down by Driver, who identified himself as the shooter; paramedics pronounced Reyes dead at the scene. The two men were roommates, and Reyes was described as Driver’s bodyguard and his best friend of two years.

Driver told authorities the shooting followed a physical altercation in which he pulled a firearm and shot Reyes, and he has asserted the shooting was in self-defense, including a claim during a 911 call that Reyes had tried to gouge out his eye. Driver was arrested, booked into the Harris County Jail, and charged with murder. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office moved to disqualify itself because an immediate relative of Driver works there; the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office has been contacted about potential appointment. Prosecutors have asked for a substantial bail amount, and a bond hearing is scheduled. Defense attorneys say the firearm involved belonged to Reyes.

Does anyone have information about Reyes, Driver, or the events at that Vassar Street residence on June 27 that could help clarify what happened?
