On the night of June 25, 2026, a dispute in the parking garage of MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, ended in a fatal shooting that killed 33-year-old Christopher Austin Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia. Police say the confrontation began at about 11:10 p.m. while Austin sat in his three-wheeled Slingshot autocycle in the exit line and escalated after an argument with a driver behind him, 36-year-old Tyrell Hairston of Accokeek. Authorities report Hairston exited his vehicle and shot Austin multiple times; Austin then drove away and crashed into a tree nearby, where he was found and pronounced dead. A passenger in Austin’s vehicle was hurt in the crash.
Hairston called 911, surrendered, and was charged with first- and second-degree murder, firearm use in the commission of a violent crime, first- and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment. His attorney has asserted self-defense, and a judge denied bail. Austin is survived by a fiancée, a 5-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter; family members described him as well loved with a laugh that could light up a room.
Did anyone see the confrontation in the garage or the vehicles as they left the scene?
